Our Story

Catalysts for Change (CFC) was formed and founded by John Adams and Michael Moody in 2019. We have been working in homeless services and volunteering for over 20 years combined, and we are devoted to providing creative solutions to serve people experiencing homelessness in Dane County. We have witnessed how systems have failed to meet the needs of individuals suffering in our community due to budgetary constraints, limited resources, and limited vision. We realize the need to think outside of the box, and that ending homelessness must be a community effort. Therefore, we have made efforts to synchronize service providers, elected officials, local law enforcement, small businesses, and concerned citizens to unite the community. CFC’s mission is to eliminate human suffering one life at a time through a multilayered approach placing human dignity and development at the forefront of poverty, addiction, and homelessness.

As CFC co-founders, we are passionate about working with individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Our many years of experience have resulted in an expert understanding of Social Services as an industry.  We have worked with over 30+ organizations in the for-profit and non-profit industries whose primary constituents are individuals and families experiencing homelessness. These partnerships were formed from our work at Bethel Lutheran Church’s Homeless Ministry and have carried on to our operation of The Beacon Day Resource Center. At the Beacon, we were directly responsible for bringing in 28 partner agencies. CFC’s philosophy is we build structure when little or none exists. CFC’s guiding principles are a belief that the health and well-being of the community should be first and as a community we need to help our brothers and sisters who are experiencing homelessness, injustice, or poverty. We will also help lead a community focus of uplifting and advocating for those whose voices are limited. We have a long history of finding the most valuable resources within our homeless services system and streamlining them to offer AODA, mental health, employment, housing, and case management in one place. CFC is dedicated to leading the charge locally as an organization in the area of human rights and advocating for the treatment of people with dignity and respect. CFC will be a staunch advocate for racial justice, social justice, LGBTQ justice, and a voice of those who feel disenfranchised.
